Reading this entry

Filed to Archive as a photo ledger. Everything beneath this note is the original entry; the notes around it are ours.

The filing year is 2017, and that year accounts for 19 of everything we hold.

Across the site we keep 323 pages, 67 of them under Archive.

Super Bowl LI is the edition in question, and the desk filed 31 items around it.

It is kept for the record. Where it names people, places or fixtures, those were the ones in front of the desk at the time.

We kept the original address when the site was rebuilt, which means anything that linked to this entry years ago still reaches it.

At the bottom of the page we list the filings closest to this one in time, which is usually the fastest way into the rest of the section.

The archive is the long tail of the desk: everything filed over the years that belongs to no single running story but still records what was happening.

Nothing in the body below has been edited for accuracy after the fact. Corrections, when we make them, are made in the open.
